I signed on with Mountain Madness guide service out of Seattle for a 6 day course in glacier mountaineering. We spent the week on Mt. Baker, an active volcano in northwest Washington State, elevation 10,778.

These are views from the east, at about 2,000 feet elevation.

This view is from the west, at sea level.

At right is the view from the trailhead, about 2,800 feet.

And here we go. Easton glacier. 8,000 feet up, 60 lb. pack, 5 days.
