After being quoted a price of $10,000 to have the roof replaced, we decided to tackle the project ourselves. It turns out there were three layers of existing shingles, and stripping these ended up being a huge effort. In the one ten square foot section counted there were almost 100 nails, so we ended up pulling 17,000 roofing nails and carting 13,660 pounds of old shingles to the dump. Installing new architectural shingles after this was the easy part.
